1.4 million more employees fall below the Living Wage

A new report by the Resolution Foundation, Low Pay Britain 2013, suggests the economic downturn has caused a further 1.4 million UK employees to fall below the Living Wage (the rate deemed necessary for a basic standard of living).

4.8 million (20 per cent) employees earn below the Living Wage, up from 3.4 million (14 per cent) in 2009.

The report provides a comprehensive breakdown of low pay in the UK, including by age, gender, sector and region.
