Latest pay and labour statistics:

  • The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) rose by 0.9 per cent in the year to October 2016, compared with a 1.0 per cent rise in the year to September;
  • The employment rate (the proportion of people aged from 16 to 64 who were in work) was 74.5 per cent, the joint highest since comparable records began in 1971;
  • Total average earnings year on year increased by 2.5 per cent including bonuses and by 2.7 per cent excluding bonuses, in September 2016; and,
  • The Living Wage (an independently calculated wage based on the basic cost of living in the UK) has increased:
    • UK Living Wage - £8.25 to £8.45
    • London Living Wage - £9.40 to £9.75
