PAYnotes: The true cost of the National Living Wage

In April 2016, it will be compulsory for employers to pay staff over the age of 25 the new National Living Wage (NLW). Currently the national minimum wage stands at £6.70 an hour, but this will increase to £7.20 an hour for over 25’s.

The idea behind the introduction of the new compulsory national living wage is to pay workers a wage that is sufficient for them to have a normal standard of living. The rate is set to ensure workers in the UK will be able to afford everyday items such as food, transport and bills.
