Latest pay and labour market statistics January 2019:
The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) 12-month rate was 2.1 per cent in December 2018, down from 2.3 per cent in November 2018.
The employment rate (the proportion of people aged from 16 to 64 years who were in work) was estimated at 75.8 per cent, higher than for a year earlier (75.3 per cent) and the highest since comparable estimates began in 1971.
Total average earnings increased by 3.2 per cent including bonuses and it also increased by 3.4 per cent excluding bonuses in the 12 months up to November 2018.
